Winter Tree ID ~ FULLY BOOKED

Winter Tree ID ~ FULLY BOOKED

When you’re out walking in winter, have you ever wondered, “which tree is that?”

Once the leaves have fallen from the trees, many people can be stumped when asked what they’re seeing in the woods and hedgerows. But have no fear, because on this one-day course we’ll show you how to identify trees in winter by looking at buds, bark, the shape of the tree and other clues. We’ll also look at the different uses that trees have, their place in the ecosystem and even a bit of woodland folklore.

winter tree IDJoin woodland skills tutor,  James Kendall, as we delve into the woods of Denmark Farm. James has worked for many years in and around trees from managing the largest community woodland in Wales to introducing children to the wonder of woods through his Forest School work with The Woodland Classroom.

Denmark Farm is a fantastic site to learn about winter tree ID because there is such a wide range of species here which make up a range of varied habitats including broad-leaf woodland, scrubby grasslands and hedgerows. You’ll also come away with a package of resources which you can use to take your learning further.

The course is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over.

Please bring a packed lunch on the day but hot drinks and biscuits will be provided. Please also bring suitable clothing and footwear for the outdoors as we’ll be exploring the nature reserve.

This event is funded by WCVA’s Volunteering In Wales Fund and The Big Lottery Fund Awards for All, as part of our Sowing Seeds Sharing Skills project.

THIS EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED
