In this creative workshop you will learn how to master the art of peg loom weaving, using raw sheep fleece.
Peg loom weaving is an ancient and basic form of weaving. Peg looms are so simple to use that anyone can create beautiful and useful woven items, including rugs, wall-hangings, seat pads, blankets, mattress covers, and wearable art. It is an ideal way to use a variety of yarns, recycled fabric, sheep fleece and even plastic bags. A great technique for complete beginners to the more experienced weaver.
On this workshop you will be working with whole untreated fleece which will be supplied by the tutor. If your prefer to bring your own fabric remnants along you can use these instead. Fabric can include old shirts, bedding, light weight throws. It may be a good idea to rip the material about two and a half inches wide and keep the length. If you do this in advance it would save a lot of time to spend on learning to weave.
You will learn how to thread the loom, weave a seat pad or small rug which will be yours to take home, identify the warp and weft and tie off your finished piece. Please feel free to bring your own pegloom if you have one. After the workshop you can either wash the yarn to remove some of the lanolin and start the felting process off or leave it in its raw form.
Fee: £36 per person (plus £5 for materials payable to the tutor on the day – please let us know if you’d like to use fleece or bring your own fabric)
