Event Type

Timber boardwalks are essential for providing better access to boggy areas and wetlands at so many nature reserves and country parks.

In this one day training event you will learn theory and practice for boardwalk construction from start to finish. Join experienced Countryside Skills Tutor, Peter Drake who will guide you through the whole process. Topics covered will include: siting your boardwalk, design options, considering ‘access for all’ and practical carpentry. This course would suit landowners or landscapers looking to improve their skills in access works. Beginners are very welcome.

All tools and equipment will be provided as well as plenty of hot drinks and biscuits. Please come dressed for cold and wet weather and bring a packed lunch.

Tutor: Peter Drake

This is a free volunteer training event.

Limited to 5 places, please book your place in advance below.

This is a fairly physical activity, carrying/lifting heavy timber and working in a wet muddy area. You need to be fit and prepared to get wet and muddy.

Wear steel toe-capped boots and bring waterproofs. Bring a packed lunch, hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.

If you require accommodation during this course you can choose to stay in the Self-Catering Eco Lodge at Denmark Farm from £33 per night (min 2 nights) or bring your own tent and stay on our Eco Campsite for £12.50 per night.

Have a look at our Conservation Volunteers Days page for other free volunteering events.

We are very grateful to Hanfod Cymru and The Cambrian News for their funding making this event possible.
