Denmark Farm Regular Volunteer Days

Good to Go – Actually Raring to Go!

After three long months of complete shut down at Denmark Farm we are raring to get up and running again. We are, however, sadly aware that we need to wait a little longer, until it is safe, to welcome everyone back. Then we will be ‘Good to Go’, picking up where we left off last autumn with lots of exciting nature and wildlife activities.

To assure you that we haven’t been hibernating over the winter here is a quick summary of what we’ve been doing, plus a link to our latest Newsletter.

Linda Highland CattleLinda has been very busy keeping the nature reserve maintained and working with a range of local contractors to complete several grant funded tasks. We have replaced some old fencing, improved footpaths and built a new stretch of boardwalk. We have also welcomed a new fold of Highland Cattle who are munching their way through all the lush growth in the pastures. Harvesting Willow Wet SystemOver the next few months we are also extending and improving our pond dipping platform as well as coppicing the willow beds. Our project Cadw Natur Mewn Cof / Keeping Nature in Mind will be extended into the summer months so there should be plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in conservation work and learn new skills. We are extremely grateful to the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme and Ceredigion Nature Partnership for all their support.

Our other two staff in the team, Marc and Mara, are now being flexibly furloughed and are working much reduced hours. When they are involved Marc is developing improved ways of reporting our financial situation to colleagues and trustees as well as applying for much needed COVID grants. Mara is getting all systems and facilities prepared for the grand reopening of the Eco Lodge, Campsite and Course programme and also carrying out some more urgent fundraising.

You will have to wait just a little bit longer before you can come and stay with us again, volunteer or attend a course but we will certainly be Good to Go as soon as we can. In the meantime make yourself a cuppa and have a read of our latest short newsletter for more details of what we have been doing over the past year and plans for the year ahead.
