Using time-honoured tools such as froes, drawknives and a shave horse, attendees will shape their own woodland shingles and contribute directly to a live conservation project – repairing Denmark Farm’s bird hide by removing worn shingles and replacing them with newly crafted ones.
Come along to Denmark Farm and spend a day (or more) learning the traditional method of making wooden roofing shingles, using froes, draw knifes and a shave horse, and then helping us to strip the old shingles from the bird hide, and make and refit new shingles. As you learn the traditional craft of wooden shingle-making, you’ll also be working to restore an important wildlife structure at Denmark Farm.
