It is advisable that you have had some previous basketry experience for this course.
Day 1 – square bases
On our first day we will make three different styles of square base and will look at the difference between the traditional square base and the ‘WI’ method.
Day 2 – sides and corners
On the second day you will use the bases that you have made to turn into baskets. We will be exploring the difference in setting up the sides for the blunt corner, compared to adding in corner posts for a sharper corner. There will be the opportunity to use various different weaves in the sides such as waling, slewing, (single and chasing) and single and double French randing. We will also look at how to put finger holes into the sides.
Day 3 – borders and handles
On the last day we will aim to get all of your different baskets finished. We will cover various rod borders and how they can go out of sequence to create a better corner. There will also be the opportunity to do roped willow handles and put bow handles on to shoppers.
All materials and tools will be provided, however there is an additional fee of £40 for the large quantity of materials used to create your multiple baskets. Please bring this in cash and pay to the tutor on the day.
Fee: £195 (includes tuition and hot drinks throughout the day)
Places are limited to eight participants and must be booked in advance.

“I had forgotten pretty much everything about basket weaving and I took part in this workshop to remind myself so that I can continue at home. I now can continue! The teaching was very good, Jane was observant, informative and careful to ensure reasonably high quality results. Denmark Farm is a top venue with great facilities”. Blue Morgan
“Thank you so much for arranging the basket making course. Jane is an amazing and thoughtful teacher. She gives everyone her undivided attention and responds to what they want to do and their level.
