Expressive Drawing is a gentle workshop that uses drawing, mark-making and body-awareness techniques to explore emotions, self-expression and creativity. No artistic experience is needed. Through guided exercises, participants will connect with their inner selves in a safe, supportive, judgement-free space, using art as a tool for reflection, insight and wellbeing.

Expressive drawing is all about process…
Not the end result.
Not a perfect representation.
Not even to be judged “good ” or “bad”.

It is about getting what is inside, out. What is hidden, revealed. What is denied, recognised. What is suppressed, seen.

Using a variety of exercises, somatic techniques (the integration of body-based, physical awareness into the creative process) and processes we put marks to paper to draw on our inner selves. We leave our thinking, rational and sense making brains at the door and allow our feeling bodies free rein.

This workshop is suitable for everyone, regardless of artistic experience or ability. No drawing skills are required—only a willingness to explore, experiment and be curious.

We will discover

  • How to use drawing, mark making and art to express ourselves more freely.
  • How to tap into what our emotions are telling us.
  • How art can be used as a tool for reflection, self-awareness and personal growth.
  • How creative practice can help soothe, ground and calm the nervous system.

You will be welcomed into a space that is safe, supportive and free from judgement. This is a non-performative, process-led workshop with no pressure to create a finished piece or share more than you feel comfortable sharing.

Come as you are, and give yourself permission to explore, express and connect through creativity.

About the tutor:
I studied fine art at Carmarthenshire Art College for 2 years as a mature student 20 years ago, and have since used creativity as a vehicle for learning, development, expression and processing with myself, other adults and children. I have worked in a voluntary capacity with Forest School, Llandeilo Literature Festival, St Teilo’s Sunday School and I currently co-run an “Art Practice” class in my local community. For the past 3 years I have run workshops for Llandeilo Literature Festival which have included illustrated story telling, historical book illustration and land art in the local school allotment.
