Using time-honoured tools such as froes, drawknives and a shave horse, we are asking for volunteers to come and help us make wood shingles and contribute directly to a live conservation project – repairing Denmark Farm’s bird hide by removing worn shingles and replacing them with newly crafted ones
Come along to Denmark Farm and spend a day (or more) learning how to make wooding roofing shingles, using froes, draw knifes and a shave horse, and then helping us to strip the old shingles from the bird hide, and make and refit new shingles. As you learn the traditional craft of wooden shingle-making, you’ll also be working to restore an important wildlife structure at Denmark Farm.
The workshops are completely free of charge and open to all, and may interest anyone with an interest in heritage crafts, conservation, or outdoor learning.
