Utilize the natural beauty and low impact nature of roundwood timber framing to learn how to create structures ranging from simple sheds and shelters to your own home or barn on this five day roundwood timber framing course.

If you’ve always dreamed of building your own bespoke structure this course will provide you with all the skills that you need. Under the expert tuition of craftsman Jamie Miller of Tŷ Pren, you will learn all the basic techniques for design and construction of your own project.

This course will guide you through the basics of constructing a roundwood timber frame. Utilising traditional hand tools and marking techniques to be able to create a variety of frameworks.

The course will cover everything from timber selection, tools and designing, right through to raising a finished frame.

A delicious organic two-course vegetarian lunch is provided on each workday (please specify when booking if you have any special dietary requirements).

Course Program:

Day 1: Why roundwood? Woodland tour, timber selection and grading
Day 2: marking out, joinery
Day 3: joinery
Day 4: bracing
Day 5: finishing and raising

You will need steel toe cap boots and are welcome to bring along any tools you might have and like to use.

The course will be based at Longwood Community Woodland, Llanfair Clydogau SA48 8NE.

The course will start at 9.30am and finish at 5.00pm each day
