In 2017 we have a selection of family friendly eco activities to suit all our guests and local visitors with children. This programme will be added to and updated over the year so please keep checking to see if there are more events, or you can join our mailing list to get updates delivered straight to your inbox.
Tuesday 11th April 2017, 10am-4pm
We welcome James and Lea from woodland Classroom for a day of bushcraft adventures in the woods, inspired by Bear Grylls’ recent kids TV show. Open to children aged 8-14 years. Kids will have to choose which few precious items to take into the woods, discover which plants and trees could help them survive and learn to use sharp tools to craft useful items. There will also be a bushtucker challenge (optional for kids) where we’ll be tasting all sorts of weird snacks including edible insects! If your kids have enjoyed a Wildcraft Adventure™ and wanted to take their bushcraft skills further, then this event is the one for them. Get in touch if you’d like to know more. Advance booking is essential. Phone James, 07876 794098 or send an email.
Tickets are £36 per child and £32 for each additional sibling. For Survival School the group is smaller so that each child receives more direct attention and quality tutoring, hence the ticket price is slightly more costly per child than other events. Book your places here.
Easter Egg Hunt and Nature Trail
Saturday 15th April 2017, 1-4pm
Suitable for children aged 2-10 years. This year’s Easter Egg Hunt will be run by our good friends James and Lea at Woodland Classroom. Parents and children can join us to follow the trail of clues leading to their very own chocolate egg, all set against the backdrop of woodland, meadows and winding pathways. Each child will get their own boxed, fair-trade, milk chocolate easter egg – yum! An afternoon cafe will be run by Denmark Farm with tasty locally made cakes plus hot and cold drinks. Places are limited and should be booked in advance.
WILD IN THE WOODS
We now have an established ‘Wild in the Woods’ programme for children with activity days running during school holidays. Give your children the freedom to explore our lovely broad-leaved woodland where they can learn practical skills, meet new friends and have fun. Based around the woodland roundhouse for shelter and firepit for warmth, children will have a magical adventure they will never forget.
Tuesday 18th April 2017 with Forest School leader James Kendall
Summer 2017 events will take place one day per week during school holidays
More dates coming soon!
“I can thoroughly recommend the outdoor activities for children provided by Denmark Farm. George my 7 year old has attended ‘wild in the woods’ and ‘winter in the woods’ on several occasions.
I was a little apprehensive the first time I dropped him off because he was attending by himself and did not know anyone, my worries were totally unfounded and he was soon made welcome. Still feeling a little anxious I was responding to emails in my car (yawn!) when I saw the group of children leave the centre to collect holly, ivy and other materials from the woods to make Christmas wreaths. I was reminded of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books with the children looking like they were off on an adventure. At the end of the day when I picked him up he was really energised and could not wait to show me the den he had made with his new friends, how they cooked on the fire and the highlight (for a 7 year old) the compost toilet. I can whole heartedly recommend any of the activities as being great value adventures for children, with the added bonus of lots of fresh air and learning about nature.” Andy and George
“Violet enjoyed collecting the bugs best, but I was so impressed with the variety of activities – cooking, fire making, den making, crafts, tree climbing and relaxed fun. The day was perfect – everything ‘Wild In The Woods’ should be! Thank you”. Louise and Violet

YOUNG RANGERS: Outdoor After School Club
Young Rangers is a weekly after-school club for primary school aged children. There are no targets to meet, no curriculum, no differentiation of abilities, just learning through play and growing in social and emotional intelligence… and lots of mud. At the Woodland Classroom we’re passionate about getting kids back to nature, where every child can thrive. Sessions are led by experienced outdoor activity leaders, James & Lea.
Activities are open to all children aged 8-11 years. We have two groups currently running. Sessions are 4pm – 6pm every Tuesday or Thursday. In 2017 we start back on Thursday 2nd March.
£6 per child each session, and £5.50 for each additional sibling. Payment for each term is usually made upfront at the first session.
