Willow Weaving – Fruit Basket – FULLY BOOKED!

Date/Time
Date(s) - 15 Aug 2019
10:00 AM - 4:30 PM

A one day traditional willow basket weaving workshop in which we will be using a variety of natural willows to make a shallow round fruit or bread basket.

You will make a basket with a Portcullis centre, based on the Irish potato scibs, with waling for the sides and a rod border. You will learn traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared basketry willow plus some grown at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre on the wetland system to add colour and texture.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners but if you’ve made a basket before and would like a refresher day this is a good opportunity. If you’d like to go on and develop your skills further you may also be interested in the following workshops: Posy Basket, Tea Tray Basket and Square Log Basket which run on the preceding and following three days.

Children aged 12+ are welcome, with an accompanying adult.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along.  Please wear warm old clothing.

Tutor: Jane Welsh

Jane is an experienced basket maker and attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of willow is inspiring. She will also have a range of her own baskets for sale at very reasonable prices.

“I had forgotten pretty much everything about basket weaving and I took part in this workshop to remind myself so that I can continue at home. I now can continue! The teaching was very good, Jane was observant, informative and careful to ensure reasonably high quality results. Denmark Farm is a top venue with great facilities”. Blue Morgan

“Thank you so much for arranging the basket making course. Jane is an amazing and thoughtful teacher. She gives everyone her undivided attention and responds to what they want to do and their level. It is relaxing just to be with her and I learn so much. A big thank you! It was like a mini-holiday.” Jane Johns

Fee: £45 (includes tuition, all materials and hot drinks throughout the day)
