Willow Weaving – Breakfast Tray ~ FULLY BOOKED!

Willow Weaving - Breakfast Tray ~ FULLY BOOKED!

A one day workshop to make a small square shallow basket which can be used as a breakfast or tea tray.

The main purpose is to learn inserting a corner post and square cornering.

You will learn traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared basketry willow plus some grown at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre on the wetland system to add colour and texture.

This workshop is suitable for beginners but some previous experience of rod bordering will be handy. If you’ve made a basket before and would like a refresher day this is a good opportunity. If you’d like to go on and develop your skills further you may also be interested in the following workshops: Posy Basket, Fruit Basket and Square Log Basket which run on the preceding and following two days.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along.  Please wear warm old clothing.

Tutor: Jane Welsh

Jane is a very experienced basket maker and attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of willow is inspiring. She lives and works in Devon and we are grateful that she makes a bi-annual trip to Denmark Farm to share her skills. Jane will have a small selection of her own baskets for sale at very reasonable prices.

“I had forgotten pretty much everything about basket weaving and I took part in this workshop to remind myself so that I can continue at home. I now can continue! The teaching was very good, Jane was observant, informative and careful to ensure reasonably high quality results. Denmark Farm is a top venue with great facilities”. Blue Morgan

“Thank you so much for arranging the basket making course. Jane is an amazing and thoughtful teacher. She gives everyone her undivided attention and responds to what they want to do and their level. It is relaxing just to be with her and I learn so much. A big thank you! It was like a mini-holiday.” Jane Johns
