Join us for our annual Willow Coppicing course, based on our Wetland Ecosystem Treatment (WET) System at Denmark Farm.

willow management
Our WET System has specially designed and constructed ponds and earth banks, densely planted with wetland trees and marginal plants.  As wastewater flows through, it is both purified by microbiological action and transpired by growing plants.  In the process, a beautiful, species-rich wildlife habitat is created, including a willow resource that can be coppiced and used for basketry, hurdles, garden features or fuel, depending on the coppice cycle.
Tutors: Ryan Knight Fox & Mara Morris
Mara has been working at Denmark Farm since 2007 as our Engagement Manager. Mara has been involved in the management and coppicing of our WET System since it was created in 2013, and enjoys utilising the harvest for basketry and other willow crafts.
Ryan has been working at Denmark Farm since January 2022, as our Nature Reserve & Volunteer Manager. Ryan has been involved in managing the WET System since 2022 with participants and volunteers. He has also been involved in various willow growing projects from hedges to arches and making artist charcoal. He also teaches our Coppicing for Woodland Management Course and Winter Tree ID workshop.
