Willow Basket Weaving – Square Work

A two day basket weaving workshop in traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared willow and some willow grown at Denmark Farm on the wetland system to add colour and texture.

 

Over these 2 days we will be working with different traditional basketry techniques, starting with a square base made in a clamp. Choose your own proportions to create a square basket either with finger holds for carrying, willow roped handles or a bow handle for a square shopping basket. 

 

Most suitable for people with some previous basket making experience, however if you are a beginner you are very welcome to join us so long as you are not too ambitious with the overall size of your basket. You can also join our Beginner’s event on Tuesday 8th August 2017.

 

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along.  

 

Tutor: Jane Welsh

Jane is an experienced basket maker and attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of willow is inspiring. She will also have a range of her own baskets for sale at very reasonable prices.

Fee: £90 per person for two days (includes tuition, all materials and hot drinks throughout the workshop)

Accommodation available on site: £18 (shared dormitory) or from £30 (private ensuite Eco Lodge room) prices per person per night.
