We, as a species, have one of the most complex taste buds, and yet everything can be summed into 5 categories: sweet, salty, savoury, sour & bitter. Truth is though that we associate food and its flavour with more than just taste. Food is an extension of who we are and what we love.
Cooking over fire has happened since the creation of fire itself. Cooking the way our ancestors cooked is like tapping into an old source of wisdom. Sharing a fire connects and makes differences become smaller. Food isn’t just food anymore, food is community.
Let’s push past the urge to whip up a meal in under 60 seconds, gather in the woods, light a fire, watch the smoke curling up into the sky and get ready for the smells of open fire cooking unfolding!
Join us for a Sunday brunch cooked over the fire in the woods of Denmark Farm.
The Workshop …
We will meet around the fire circle and everyone will be able to have a go at experiencing the joy of making a fire with no matches or firelighters.
We will assemble a yummy brunch menu using different methods of cooking on a campfire. We will cook on sticks, cook in foil, cook in (vegetable) skins, roast, fry, boil and bake using the dutch oven method. This may include: pancakes, chocolate cake cooked in oranges, chocolate bananas, tornado potato, sausages (vegan), beans, stuffed peppers and more.
There will also be plenty of time to socialise around the fire with a cuppa whilst enjoying the beautiful nature of Denmark Farm with more of our senses.
This event is aimed at all adults who would like a quiet time in the woods.
This is potentially the first of a series of WildWood sessions. If you can’t make this one but would be interested in future events please get in touch.
