Understanding British Mammals II: Predators & Hunters (SELL)

Learn about our British mammals in the company of an expert mammal ecologist.

Tutor: Rob Strachan

This course covers an exciting range of mammals including the carnivores, seals and cetaceans. Species identification including sculls, life cycles, habits and habitats will be just some of the topics covered in the workshops. Practical and field exercises will involve: characteristic field-signs, with a guide to tracks and trails, feeding remains, droppings, nests and burrows together with population and monitoring techniques with field-sign surveys and dropping analysis for diet study (otter and fox). The distribution and status of these mammals, including any BAP species and Wildlife Law, will be discussed. If possible an evening badger watch will be arranged.
