Traditional Hedge-laying ~ FULLY BOOKED

This event is fully booked, however we will be running another course on the 23rd to 24th November 2024.

A unique opportunity to spend two days developing your traditional hedge-laying skills with expert countryside craftsman Peter Drake.

You will learn the benefits and techniques of hedgerow management including singling and high pruning as well as laying. The principle aim is to give you as much ‘hands-on’ traditional hedge-laying experience as possible. The course will involve laying an established hedge, mostly consisting of hazel, hawthorn and blackthorn, and filling in gaps with new tree saplings. We will be laying an approx 25-20 m hedge in the local Ceredigion style.

Peter will also cover health and safety and the basics of tool maintenance.

Please note you will be required to wear safety glasses and a helmet during this course due to health and safety. These will be provided unless you have your own.

All tools and equipment will be provided. Please come dressed for cold and wet weather and bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks will be provided during breaks.

Peter has a long history of teaching at and helping to develop Denmark Farm Conservation Centre. His hedge-laying and stone walling skills are hard to match within the county and West Wales.
