A whole weekend of spoon carving and other woodland crafts for beginners, newcomers and anyone who would like to practice their spoon carving skills.
You will be breathing the freshest of woodland air… All while learning how to carve your very own array of spoons and utensils, using simple hand tools, traditional methods and ancient woodland wisdom.
You will be learning how to:
– Coppice your own wood to use from the woodland.
– Split and prepare the wood with the use of a small axe.
– Carve out spoon and utensil blanks using various axing techniques.
– Use a straight edged knife and a crook knife – safely and efficiently to create spoons, spatulas and all manner of wooden cooking tools.
– you’ll also discover some surprising woodland magic with the bark of many trees
Tutor: Yorkshire based craftsman Dan Lawrence uses traditional hand tools and locally sourced greenwood to create a range of beautiful and functional woodenware ( from wooden spoons,bowls and others woodland wonders) which he likes to think of as ‘small functional sculptures’ inspired by Scandinavian techniques the work is skillfully finished with a knife, without use of sandpaper. Dan has been teaching regularly for over 3 years and recently taught at the international Spoonfest in the peak district.

From £12.50 per night on our Eco Campsite, £18 per night in a shared dormitory, to £33 per night (min 2 nights) in a private room in our self-catering Eco Lodge.
