Utilize the natural beauty and low impact nature of roundwood timber framing to create structures ranging from simple sheds and shelters to your own home or barn.

 
If you’ve always dreamed of building your own bespoke home this five day roundwood timber framing course will provide you with all the skills that you need. Under the expert tuition of craftsman Jamie Miller of Ty Pren, you will learn all the basic techniques for design and construction of your own project.

Course  Programme:

 
Day 1. Why roundwood timber framing? a look at the woods, timber selection and grading. Stripping poles for construction.
Day 2. Framing bed and layout of frame. Marking up and position of joints.
Day 3. Work on frame.
Day 4. Bracing and Truss work.
Day 5. Finish frame and raise.
 
A delicious organic two-course vegetarian lunch is provided on each workday (please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements).
 
You will need steel toe cap boots and are welcome to bring along any tools you might have and like to use.
 
Location is in a nearby woodland in Llangybi (not at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre). Location details and meeting point will be confirmed after registration. 
 
Tutor: Jamie Miller
Jamie has been teaching himself and others green wood skills and green building for over 15 years. He completed an apprenticeship in traditional rural skills at Coppicewood College in Cardigan in 2004. Since then, he has worked with The Welsh Wildlife Trust, Denmark Farm Conservation Centre, Tircoed, The Prince’s Trust, The National Trust, Longwood Community Woodland, and various educational establishments and community groups. He’s been an instructor with Coppicewood College, and with Tircoed for the past 10 years, as a tutor for groups of all ages as well as running his own courses around Lampeter.  Jamie has recently purchased his own land and in the the process of building his own sustainable roundwood timber frame home.

Fee: 
£480 per person (includes lunches, with no accommodation)
£530 per person (includes lunches, with 5 nights camping at Denmark Farm – bring your own camping gear)
£580 per person (includes lunches, with 5 nights in a shared dormitory at Denmark Farm)
£630 per person (includes lunches, with 5 nights in a private en-suite bedroom in the Eco Lodge at Denmark Farm)
 
Discount of £10 when fee is paid by cheque (payable to ‘The Shared Earth Trust’ and sent to Denmark Farm, Betws Bledwrs, Lampeter, SA48 8PB) or by Bank Transfer. Please contact us for bank details.
 
For Dormitory and Eco Lodge accommodation options all bedding is included. Use of the self-catering kitchen area is available for all residential participants.
