On this Pyrography workshop you will create hanging discs with your own Woodland Winter Wonderland tree scenes on, using professional pyrography equipment.
Pyrography is the ancient art of wood burning, and can produce some great textures and patterns on the wood.
First we shall examine different types of wood and burning equipment. Then we will plan and burn hanging wooden discs with winter woodland scenes, using paints to create a skyscape background to your pyrography work. These will make great presents, or hangings for a Christmas tree.
Trees come in all shapes and sizes, so each will look unique and have high visual impact, and can be simple or complex depending on your skills.
Also on the course you will be provided with other wooden objects, so can decorate a bottle opener and wooden plaque with key hook, or small box perhaps.
For those less confident in their artistic skills, there will be stencils of other winter animals provided, so you can focus on the burning aspects – stags, squirrels, hedgehogs and robins. We can also burn holly, ivy and fungi, all to create wonderful pyrography woodland winter scenes. Letter stencils will be available, should you wish to add a special message, or burn a name neatly on your work too.
You will leave with some unique wooden creations, as well as an enriched understanding of wood burning principles.
The Pyro equipment we will use are top of the range peter child pyrography machines. If you have your own pyrography kit please bring along, if you’d like to use that as well.
Optional items to Bring:
- your own pyro kit to try out
- flat head small screwdriver
- paints and brush, pencil and rubber
- a jumper as window may be open for ventilation
This course would probably not suit anyone with sensitive breathing eg asthmatic, as there is some smoke created.
The room will be well ventilated and has a high ceiling, masks and fans provided if needed, and number of students limited to 7.
Extra info: We will have take away sample bags of wood to buy for £10 so you can continue projects at home.
Claire Bennett is a local artist specialising in Pyrography – the Ancient Art of burning wood. Originally done using pokers, we now have electrical equipment with a range of different techniques and effects available. Good effects without good equipment and planning, can be hard to achieve, so I use a quality machine with different wire nibs to get fine detail. I have been practising pyrography full time for several years, and sell a variety of wooden products online and at various local craft events up and down the welsh coast.
Workshop Fee: £38 per person
NB. There is an additional £7.50 per person for materials, to be paid in cash on the day.
