Essential skills for assessing habitats and conservation planning
Tutor: Jan Martin
This two-day course introduces the standard UK method of habitat survey, known as Phase 1. It has a wide range of applications, including nature conservation, habitat assessment and development planning. The course starts with an introduction to the method, followed by a discussion of the practical considerations associated with planning and undertaking such surveys. Field-based activities allow participants to practise the range of skills required and, by the end of the course, you will be able to conduct a basic Phase 1 survey and produce the associated documentation and map. A basic knowledge of plant identification would be useful before undertaking this course.
“The best thing about this course was the range of habitats available at Denmark Farm and being in a place with people who appreciate these things”. Ian Sinclair, Nov 2013
“The course filled in the blanks of knowledge for me and I am no longer scared of Phase 1”. Corrinne Manning, Nov 2o14
“Really concise and informative, great course leader, lovely site for a course and smooth running, definitely worth it”. Rose Revera, Nov 2014
