In this creative workshop you will learn how to master the art of peg loom weaving, using raw sheep fleece.
Peg loom weaving is an ancient and basic form of weaving. Peg looms are so simple to use that anyone can create beautiful and useful woven items, including rugs, wall-hangings, seat pads, blankets, mattress covers, and wearable art. It is an ideal way to use a variety of yarns, recycled fabric, sheep fleece and even plastic bags. A great technique for complete beginners to the more experienced weaver.
Throughout the day you will be working with whole untreated fleece and will learn how to thread the loom, weave a seat pad or small rug which will be yours to take home, identify the warp and weft and tie off your finished piece. Please feel free to bring your own pegloom if you have one. After the workshop you can either wash the yarn to remove some of the lanolin and start the felting process off or leave it in its raw form.
Tutor: Kate Wilkinson, who has over twenty years experience of making and teaching this craft.
Fee: £35 per person (plus £5 for materials payable to the tutor on the day)

says:Hi, I am studying M.A. Art and Social Practice and very interested in the peg loom. I would like to mention it in my essay, but need to be able to reference it properly, I see on your site you say it is an ancient and basic form of weaving, I was wondering if you had any reference I could refer to?
many thanks

says:Hi Mary Carol, there are lots of on-line references to Peg Looms as an ancient and basic form of weaving. This is a good starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peg_loom
