An introduction to leathercraft. Make beautiful items using vegetable-tanned recycled leather.
Start with making a simple coin purse to practice using basic techniques including cutting, marking, stitching, decorating and fastenings.
After this, you will have the opportunity to make a small item of your own design. Possibilities include purse, wallet, case for glasses/phone/mp3 player, book cover, tool sheath, water bottle holder… your imagination is the key! If you have an idea of what you’d like to make, please let me know so that I can ensure the right materials are available for you.
No previous experience needed and there is no minimum or maximum age for this workshop but participants need to be able to use scissors, craft knives and other sharp tools – this is often age 9+ but can be younger. Children under 16 to be accompanied by an adult, please.
‘Very calm, clear and attentive. Robyn’s obvious skill was communicated really well to all age and skill levels – it felt really inclusive’. Josie – workshop participant
‘We didn’t know what to expect and were worried that we wouldn’t be knowledgeable enough. We needn’t have worried though, Robyn exudes calm and friendliness, immediately putting her students at ease. No attempt was made to make us stick to a rigid, pre-planned design. Everyone designed and made a unique object, specific to them. The students ranged from 5 to 65 and all made beautiful things under Robyn’s watchful eyes. We enjoyed the workshop so much, it was a real confidence boosting experience and we all went home with unique, hand made wallets and purses that we had designed ourselves to keep and treasure.’ Zia – mum of 6 and 13 year old participants
‘My daughter had a great time on your course, and we thought it was perfect. She enjoyed the sewing a lt and couldn’t think of anything she didn’t like about the day. Considering she had never worked with leather before she managed to finish her purse without feeling rushed.’ Allison – mum of 9 year old participant
Fee: £36 per person
