This popular course is fun for all the family and will teach you everything you need to know to get started with keeping chickens.
Covering the variety of breeds, feeds and housing options available plus day-to-day care and how to perform basic health checks for when choosing your chickens.
Get hands on experience handling hens and day old chicks to give you confidence for when you get your own birds. This is an interactive course getting you involved and confident with poultry, feeding, housing and getting started on your chicken keeping journey. We will have The Poultry Handbook for sale at a discounted price and can provide activities for young children including drawings and a quiz.
The morning will finish up with questions over refreshments and cake. There may even be some of our free range eggs for sale at the end too.
Attendees will go home with a goody bag containing a pen, keyring and course notes as well as various poultry leaflets, product samples and more!

Lewis (AKA Dr. Chicken) is a fully qualified Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He works and volunteers for a wide range of chicken related companies… from selling chickens and feed, working on trade stands for plastic animal housing and commercial hen rehoming days! He has also spent time seeing practice with some of the best avian vets and learnt lots!
He write articles for poultry magazines as well as running chicken keeping courses in his spare time.
Lewis has been lucky enough to give talks at The National Poultry Show, BBC Gardeners World Live at the NEC, The Edible Garden Show at Alexandra Palace and even ran a day-long course at Highgrove Estate, home of HRH Prince Charles.

Fee: £35 adults (£15 for under 12’s with a paying adult)
Accommodation available at Denmark Farm: Eco Lodge private room: £37 per person/per night (min 2 nights), Dormitory: £20 per person/per night or Eco Campsite: £12.50 per person per night. All these options include use of the main kitchen in the Training Room for self-catering. There is also an option to hire a private self-catering apartment in the Eco Lodge for £300 (sleeps 2 people/up to 3 nights).
