Event Type

Come together in the woods, for this short workshop, to weave a traditional Welsh hazel basket for all your easter treats!

A bonus surprise workshop, bought to you by Dan, our Spoon Carving tutor, who is currently doing an apprenticeship to become a basket maker.

You will be breathing the freshest of woodland air… All while learning how to weave a simple basket – all from hazel rods coppiced on site, using simple hand tools, traditional methods and ancient woodland wisdom.

No previous experience require. All materials are provided. Children aged 12 plus are welcome with an accompanying adult.

Also available to purchase will be Dan’s handmade spoons for sale at a special 15% discount for course participants.

spoons2Tutor: Travelling craftsman Dan Lawrence uses hand tools to create kaleidoscopic sensory bliss.

Dan is an experienced instructor of five years and has been teaching at International Spoonfest for two years now. Dan uses traditional hand tools and locally sourced greenwood to create a range of beautiful and functional wooden-ware (from wooden spoons, bowls and others woodland wonders). He likes to think of his work as ‘small functional sculptures’ inspired by Scandinavian techniques. All his work is skillfully finished with a knife, without use of sandpaper.

There will be maximum 6 participants and places must be booked in advance.

Fee: £25 per person (includes materials)
