Discovering seeds, berries, nuts and roots. Boosting the immunity!
Ethnobotany is not just the study of trees and plants, but it is also how we interact with them, have connected with them and utilised them from the beginning of time.
So, whether you are interested in learning about tree & plant identification or the vast amount of different ways that we can utilise them in everyday life, then this is the course for you.
All meals will be enjoyed around the campfire, with a woodland community feel. Optional Tai Chi stretches on Sunday morning and wildlife encounters from sitting out in the evening to watch the barn owls emerge to listening to bats on a bat detector.
From 2023 we will be running 3 Ethnobotany Overnight weekends through the seasons! On each weekend we will be discovering new crafts from nature and exploring trees and plants through the seasons from Spring to Summer to Autumn. We will be looking at the different growth stages through the year, so by the end of the year you will be able to identify the plants at all growth stages.
During the Autumn Ethnobotany Overnight course, the main focus will be discovering berries, seeds, nuts and roots. We will be looking into boosting the immunity before going into the colder months. Looking into herbs for depression and seasonal affective disorder. We will also whittle some wooden mushrooms and do some natural dyeing. As well as cooking bread and stews, yummy drinks, nettle seed energy balls, cakes and more!

What we plan to cover:
- Plant Identification
- Tree Identification
- Ecology
- Herbal Medicine
- Foraging for Food
- Tool use
- Fire Lighting & Cooking
- Making Ointments & Tinctures
- Woodland crafts
We will also be exploring natural art through the seasons: leaf bashing, artist charcoal, natural inks, paints and more!
On these two day and one night courses we will explore everything on a deeper level and have the chance to cover more species, as well as look at more ways of utilising and reconnecting with the natural environment. We will look at ecology, herbal medicine, foraging for food, uses of different woods, natural materials for fire lighting, making cordage, herbal teas and much more! Please note that some plants will be covered on every weekend, so that you are able to identify them throughout the year.
Camping is included in the price, whether you would like to spend the night in the woods in a hammock or in a tent in the camping field.
If you prefer not to camp then we can offer a range of options for indoor accommodation (please see below for more details)
