Event Type

Learn how to identify, conserve and encourage our furry friends.

Tutor: Phil Ward

Indoor and outdoor workshop focusing on identification, ecology, food plants & habitats of bumblebees, including Biodiversity Action Plan species.

Bumblebees are one of our most important pollinators, but have declined 80% in the UK over the last century, and four species have become extinct. During both outdoor field sessions and indoor workshops, we will learn about the bumblebee life cycle and the fascinating cuckoo bumblebees, what habitats they need, which flowers are best, how to identify bumblebees from their colour bands, use of identification books, and how to encourage and conserve them.
