Throughout this day-long course we will be learning traditional book binding techniques, and using a range of hand tools to make a set of beautiful and personalised notebooks that you can take home with you.
We will also be doing collage, and you will use your own printed images to create a zine, where we will be considering image relationships.
Please bring your own printed images, whether that is photographs of family, artworks or anything you want really. It is about creating visual narratives in the form of a small book! You can also use collaging material – we’ll have some magazines available for this.
Tutor: Charles Turner
Gloaming Notebooks is a small business operated by Charles Turner, who fell in love with book binding when studying at Manchester School of Art. The word Gloaming references the time of day after the sun has set and before the darkness of night. This tranquil and reflective space cast in the blue light of pre-night time mirrors the ethos of his books. Inspired by walking and introspection, they encourage individuals to develop a dialog with oneself. Bringing pen to paper emphasises your handwriting, something as unique as your fingerprint.
Fee: £60 per person
NB. There is an additional fee of £10 for materials (Paper, book cloth, book board, linen thread, collage material, photographs, printer ink, Glue, Mull book backing). Please bring this amount on the day in cash.
There will be maximum of 7 places.
