Weave a Little Bark Bag or Basket ~ FULLY BOOKED

Weave a Little Bark Bag or Basket ~ FULLY BOOKED

An exciting new course for you to learn how to weave with willow bark, to make a delightful and handy little bag or basket.

On this Little Bark Bag or Basket course you will learn how to soak and cut the willow bark into different size strips and then weave into a base shape and secure with waxed thread.

You will then weave the sides, complete a border and add a strap to hang round you neck or on a peg.  You can even make it the correct size to store your snips or pens.

You can decide if you would like to make the bark bag or square-to-round- bark basket – perfect for dried or fresh flowers.

You will then weave the sides, complete a border and add a strap for the bag.

We will also cover the best time of year to strip willow and how to best store the bark.

All materials and tools are provided.

Please feel free to bring a button, shells or any small trinkets that you would like to use as adornments.

This workshop is suitable for all abilities.

Workshop Tutor:

Justine Burgess willow weavingJustine Burgess of West Wales Willows. Justine originally trained as an engineer, and worked in the charity and education sectors, before becoming a partner in West Wales Willows with her husband, Alan.  On their smallholding in Carmarthenshire, they grow around 250 varieties of willow and sell it as cuttings and rods during the winter for others to grow, as well as selling their own willow products and sharing her expertise through workshops.

Last year, Justine  travelled to Denmark to study with the hugely talented Ane Lyngsgaard.  While she was there, Ane taught her how to weave these pouches (and other lovely bark baskets) with willow bark, and other materials.  This is Justine’s take on the skills learned.

Places are limited to eight participants and must be booked in advance.

Workshop Fee: £65 per person

NB. There is an additional £10 per person for materials, to be paid in cash on the day.
