Children Play on the Wildside at Denmark Farm

For many years we’ve been advocating outdoor play and learning opportunities for children at Denmark Farm. Now in 2015, we have a huge range of opportunities on offer to make this even more accessible and get the little ones outside connecting with nature.

Early Spring Birdsong Walk (Free Event): This gentle walk will involve the opportunity to learn & familiarise yourself with resident birdsong and  calls. At this time of the year we should hear Robins, Thrushes, Blue Tits and Great Tits actively singing and defending their territories. It is a great time of the year to experience Woodpeckers drumming and Nuthatches being very vocal. There may also be some winter migrants still present to see and hear. The emphasis will be on listening rather than “birdwatching.” Sunday 8th March 2015.

Big Easter Bunny Egg Hunt & Nature Trail: Children will have an unforgettable adventure following a nature trail, seeking out signs of spring and collecting hand made chocolate eggs as well as other wildlife themed treats around Denmark Farm’s trails. Saturday 4th April 2015.

Grow Me Eat Me Family Fun:  A fun courses for the whole family! Getting children growing their own fruit and vegetables not only teaches them where food comes from but can also encourage them to eat healthier. Get the whole family involved in the rewarding adventure of growing your own!  Thursday 9th April 2015.

We now have an established ‘Wild in the Woods’ programme for children. Give your children the freedom to explore our lovely broad-leaved woodland where they can learn practical skills, meet new friends and have fun. Based around the woodland roundhouse for shelter and firepit for warmth, children will have a magical adventure they will never forget. Our 2015 programme begins in the Easter holidays and continues once a week during school holidays until October half term.

The Young Rangers Club has only been running since September 2014 but is proving a huge success. This popular club meets after school on Thursdays for forest school activities, learning from nature, woodland games and arts and crafts all in the outdoors.  The club is now fully booked and has a waiting list so they have decided to introduce a second evening. Starting straight after the Easter break the club will also be running on a Tuesday from 4-6pm for 6-11 year olds.   Young Rangers is run by James Kendall and Lea Wakeman and if you are interested in your child taking part you can find out more and express your interest on the young rangers facebook page.

Our Self-Catering Eco Lodge and Eco Campsite offer perfect solutions for Family friendly holidays with sustainability in mind. For small families or large groups we can accommodate you and your little ones for a memorable stay. All guests have total freedom of our 40 acre nature reserve and can explore and have adventures at leisure.

Finally, don’t forget we have over two miles of Walks and Trails around the site at Denmark Farm. Bring along your waterproofs, wellies, a flask and picnic. Splash in the puddles and stop for a while to listen to the birdsong in our magical woodland roundhouse or lakeside hide. Enjoy watching the gentle highland cattle grazing the meadows during autumn and winter. Some trails are accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs but not all. Dogs are welcome too if kept on a lead. Trails open to the public dawn to dusk for a small donation for car parking.

With specials thanks to Traceyanne Reynolds for the photography
